So...this is a first for me, but not in writing but a for a newsletter. This is also new for going independent into the world of writing. All in all, it has been something that has been on the mind for quite awhile and while I likely will look back in the beginning and questions half of the stuff I write it’ll be a learning experience none the less.
Now why am I doing this? I’ll keep it generally short, but it comes down to a pretty simply common thing, independence. For many years I’ve worked for others learning many great things, especially in the Agtech and Earth Observation space. I’ve worked for my families company that did both and also worked in other connected spaces mainly Ag related. All in all, I was just ready to go out on my own and spread some knowledge by myself. I come from an entrepreneurial family and grew up on the farm, it just sort of was time more or less.
For what I will be writing about basically has been a long time coming. I’ve seen a huge gap over the years in how Agriculture and Earth Observation companies interact and what they assume about each other. It’s pretty bad and from my many colleagues on both sides they agreed. The problem is to properly see the issues it takes a weird set of observations to be present from both ends. It hasn’t been easy and it’s also not something one necessarily pursues. It sort of just happens and the others that I would say are in a similar space would likely say the same.
This is not to say no one is doing good at this combination, it is saying that it’s very hard for both sides to understand each other. My plan is to dive into much of why that is while also trying to find solutions to some of these problems. I also want to tell some war stories from the past in combination with some humor on how stupid at times each side has worked in conjunction. In an realm, there is much to talk about and share to not only both industries but the general public too as there is a growing trend of Ag and EO in the world now, especially when it comes to climate related activities.
From here I’m going to start getting down to business in my actual weekly posts, but I thought this would be a good start to starting. If you’re reading this I do hope you continue to read more as time goes on and also comment on what you think. Overall, the plan is to help bridge Ag and EO in new methods and ways that either are not talked about or haven’t been attempted.
See you out there!
