Interview with Gottfried Pessl founder of Pessl Instruments
3/12/2024: 3rd Episode of my Ag Uncensored Podcast
Opening Thoughts:
This was a fun one with a legend within the AgTech community and specifically around weather stations. While we could’ve talked for hours (I could with most I’m sure) we went through a lot of items from the basics of Ag, the history of the tractor, and getting into the weeds of technology in Ag.
Other than that have a listen, watch, and/or check it out (links and video below). Also, I’ve got a little extra to say below on some things I tried and beyond…
Here is a Summary:
In this episode, Nathan Faleide interviews Gottfried Pessl, the founder of Pessl Instruments, about his background in agriculture and the development of weather stations. Gottried shares his experiences growing up on a small farm in Austria and his transition into entrepreneurship. He discusses the importance of weather stations in agriculture and the impact of the Internet of Things on their development. Gottfried also draws parallels between the historical adoption of tractors and the current state and future of weather stations. The conversation concludes with a discussion on the potential for robotics in agriculture and the challenges of marketing new products. This conversation explores the evolution of agricultural communication, the challenges of integrating hardware and software in ag tech, the value of weather stations and rain gauges in agriculture, the importance of soil moisture monitoring, the potential of AgTech adoption, and the need for collaboration in the industry. The conversation highlights the role of data-driven decision making and the importance of reliable weather and soil data in optimizing agricultural practices. It also emphasizes the potential of collaboration and data sharing among farmers and industry stakeholders to drive innovation and improve outcomes in agriculture.

Trying to Illustrate this via AI - Can’t do it
I’m not going to lie here, I almost put some stuff down on this as I tried a few different writing styles and even in the tones of popular comedians like Bill Barr, Dave Chappelle, and Will Ferrell. It tried it with a fun or light touch to more serious methods. All in all, it just wasn’t for me.
While I’ll say the Summary above is actually done that way through AI, it’s just not my style and it’s why I wanted to do a podcast instead. My style is just listening to what I say I guess. Beyond the reading the transcript (it’s 33 pages long) I just can’t summarize it I don’t think without spending way too much time. If you want it I’ll gladly share it, or you can input it in the thousands of softwares out there doing it for free.
I’m still playing with it though and maybe I can find a fit. More or less I know some people just want to read something short like 5-10 minutes. That was my goal. Of course, many of you just probably want to see my memes. Well at the moment for those fans just go to Linkdeln page for the most part. I’ll put some on here I promise from time to time, but Linkedln and even my personal Twitter/X are way easier.
Anyway, I’m writing this as I just wanted to also call it out. I know many are using AI to write a ton of content and to some extent it is totally fine. For my style I just can’t beyond general summaries. Maybe that’ll change, but until I can write the AI prompt to write it in the style of Nathan Faleide then I think I’ll shy away from it for now. Also, if that happens I’m probably just screwed anyway.
Oh how the turntables….
Closing Thoughts:
I said I had a little extra to say, well simply put I’m trying to change things up while trying to keep it as I used too. I’ll say, I’ll be putting out a special edition more like the older newsletters likely on Wednesday so look for that. Also, I’ll be going to World Agritech in San Francisco next week so if you’re around and would like to meet let me know! I’ll have more details on that through my Linkedln page later this week. Reach out to me through my contact info on my Ag Uncensored website too if you’d like to converse.
All in all, thanks for reading, listening, and watching.
