Another note, I do this on my own dime and time and don’t ever expect to charge for my newsletter or do ads through my podcast (though something bigger is coming I’ll say soon) so if you are feeling generous or something feel free to pledge some dough to me if you’d like. It always is a nice to have, but by all means not required though helps as a confidence boost. Thanks for reading as always!
Opening Thoughts:
Alright, I’ll be honest…I like to talk a lot and so do my guests apparently. This one was no different at close to 2 hours. I get most don’t want to listen to something that long so by all means look at the chapters and pick through it unless you have a bunch of time of your hands.
Anyway, I think anyone could have a convo for more than an hour every week and still not get through all the information and stories Carter has. He’s been apart of Boeing Phatomworks (guy knows some classified stuff that clearly I would dreams of knowing) and many other tech engineering plays that almost hurt the brain in their complexities.
Ag has been a more recent play for him and is really trying to intersect AgTech and Agrifood through nutrition. Also complex, but very compelling and needed.
We get into some weird convos too that I’m sure will go over the head of normal Aggies, but they are interesting nonetheless. Also I don’t want to forget, Carter is constantly writing compelling posts on Twitter and Linkedln and through his own newsletter Creative Destruction around Ag and beyond so definitely follow him.
Overall while we just touched the surface I think people like Carter are crucial to the Ag conversation in how we apply technology in many areas. So definitely take a watch or listen even if it’s super long.
Here is a Summary:
(It’s written by AI via the transcript so yeah, it’s a little boring)
In this conversation, I interview Carter Williams, a leading voice in the conversation around technology and agriculture and CEO of iSelect Fund. Carter shares his background in aerospace engineering and his experience in developing innovative technologies around Agriculture and AgTech.
Takeaways
The conversation explores the intersection of technology, agriculture, and healthcare, and the need for innovative solutions in these industries.
The farm bill plays a significant role in shaping the relationship between production agriculture and food nutrition, but there is a desire to separate the two to allow for more efficient and targeted approaches.
Implementing new technologies and processes in agriculture and healthcare can be challenging due to the complex nature of the systems and the political considerations involved.
There is a need to focus on improving nutritional density in food and exploring the concept of food as medicine to address health issues related to poor nutrition.
Efforts to modernize and streamline processes, such as crop insurance reporting, are hindered by factors like job security and funding considerations.
The conversation highlights the importance of collaboration and knowledge sharing between different industries and sectors to drive innovation and progress. The food system needs to prioritize nutritious and healthier food options, especially for children in schools and daycare centers.
Implementing regenerative agriculture practices and improving the food system is complex and requires collaboration between various stakeholders.
Early adopters play a crucial role in driving change and influencing the adoption of new technologies in agriculture.
There is a need for more research and funding in agriculture to address the challenges and complexities of implementing new practices.
Public-private partnerships could be a potential solution to accelerate innovation and address the funding gap in agriculture. The transfer of land and the construction of soybean crushing plants will have a significant impact on agriculture.
The future of ethanol and fossil fuels is uncertain, but lobbying and political pressure could drive changes.
Consolidation of farms is expected, with larger farms becoming more efficient and smaller farms focusing on renting land and implementing regenerative practices.
Investment in smaller farms focused on nutrition is needed to provide alternatives to large commodity crops.
Venture capital plays a role in coordinating innovation, but early adopter customers are crucial for startups to succeed.

Closing Thoughts:
This whole thing is evolving for me so if you are even reading this just realize I’m going to change things up from time to time. One thing I’ll mention is I hope at the very least you’ll directly subscribe to my channels and what not. It’d mean a lot naturally.
Another thing, I’m likely going to be expanding my videos to something pretty cool coming soon as I’ve got a lot of great feedback around it. I still need some time to develop it and while it’ll cost something for some, for those general watchers it will not. You’ll like it I guarantee and I will want some feedback from those of you out there where it makes sense. More to come…
As for this podcast, follow Carter and check out all that he has done. He’s one of those guys that is helping change the mindset in Ag for the best. Do yourself a favor.
Thanks again everyone for watching, listening, and reading!
